Mini-Hollywood in Tabernas <\/strong>The province is famous as the location for the shooting of many of the Spaghetti Western films.
\nThe dry and arid landscapes of the Taberna Desert – Europe’s only desert, part of the Sierra Nevada National Park – were perfect set locations for Sergio Leone’s films.
\nDavid Lean also filmed some scenes there including the Oscar winning film Lawrence of Arabia.

Cabo de Gata – Nijar <\/strong>East of the city of Almer\u00eda we find the natural and protected marine park, Cabo de Gata – Nijar with its beautiful and rugged coastline.
\nMuch of this coast has limited access by car, so to get there it is mostly on foot, but it is well worth the experience, because once there, you can enjoy the crystal clear waters and ideally secluded coves, ideal for swimming and diving.
\nCabo de Gata is an area of volcanic origin.
\nIt is also a protected National Park and the largest protected coastal area in Andalusia.
\nThe rugged mountainous and rocky landscape of this area is isolated and one of Europe’s most unusual geologically.
\nThe Sierra de Gata mountain range is Spain’s largest volcanic rock formation, with sharp peaks and ochre-colored crags (shell sand formations).
\nOn the coast, the rocks rise steeply from the sea.
\nThey create sometimes up to 100 m high, angular and jagged cliffs, which are split by ravines and gullies that lead to secluded coves with white sand beaches.
